You can also get magnificent views of other giants, Mt. which offers the best view you will get of Mt. Kala Pattar, a small peak (by Himalayan standards) at 18,514 ft. This morning we will wake up early at around 5am, grab a hot drink and head out into the mountains to attempt to climb Mt. ![]() Today will be one of the most difficult, yet rewarding days of the trek (optional). Note: If time permits, we will visit the Buddhist lamasery (Buddhist orphanage) across the river and get a glimpse into the life of Buddhist orphans. Upon arrival in Phakding, we will check into our tea house and have some down time to take in the area before being served our nutritious Nepali dinner. Today’s walk is mostly downhill and will take roughly 3 hours. This begins our journey to Everest Base Camp as we begin walking slowly from Lukla to the village of Phakding. At the airport, we will meet our porters for the expedition and arrange our personal and group gear accordingly. Upon arrival in Lukla, we will be immersed in the Sherpa and Tamong cultures of the Khumbu Valley. By using helicopters, we have a much higher possibility of getting to Lukla without problems. It is extremely common to see upset visitors leaving the airport returning to Kathmandu. The weather in Lukla often causes in-bound flights to be delayed for days or even weeks. Most companies take planes to Lukla due to lower cost, however we opt for the much more reliable helicopter option. This morning we will have breakfast at the guest house and then travel back to Tribhuvan International Airport for an in-country flight (35 minutes) to the village of Lukla. The natural mountain scenery coupled with the rich culture of the Khumbu Valley, makes the Wildland Trekking Everest Base Camp trek one of the best treks in the world. Additionally, we will visit the Kathmandu temples of Boudhanath, Swayambhunath and Durbar square. We will have breakfasts, lunches and dinners in tea houses along the way ensuring cultural interaction. On this 17-day Wildland Trekking hiking tour, we will travel through remote villages inhabited by the Sherpa people, visit Buddhist monasteries and sleep in rustic Sherpa tea houses. This trek is a massive accomplishment and an unforgettable adventure! However, we will be hiking with light day packs, while supporting the local community by hiring porters to carry the majority of our group and personal gear. While we will be trekking uphill on the way to Everest Base Camp, the trek is considered “Nepali Flat”, meaning there are many ups and downs consistently throughout the 65 mile trek. The summit of Everest sits at 29,029 feet, so even trekking to the base camp (17,590 ft.) is no small task. ![]() The high mountains of the Khumbu Valley shadow the famous route to the base camp of the highest mountain in the world, Mount Everest, known as Sagarmatha to the local Nepali people.
